Great Barrier Island "Catch & Cook" Weekend Adventure

Gather your family, friends or workmates for an adventure-filled weekend at Great Barrier Island! Situated on the edge of the Hauraki Gulf in New Zealand’s only national marine park, Great Barrier Island is just 90kms from Auckland but feels like a world away from your usual holiday destination.

Your weekend kicks-off with a private helicopter transfer across the stunning Waitematā Harbour to meet with the boat “Silent Wings” at Great Barrier Island. Enjoy a relaxing family-style dinner aboard, while watching the twinkling lights of the island in the distance.

Awake to the calming sounds of the ocean and cruise to one of our secret fishing spots for your first opportunity to catch and cook your own breakfast, with snapper (hopefully!) on the menu. After breakfast, explore the island and enjoy one of the many bush walks. Head back to the boat and relax and revive over lunch, before getting back out onto the water for some water-sports. Later over dinner, unwind and soak up the stunning starry vistas in one of only 11 designated International Dark Sky Sanctuary’s in the world.

After breakfast on day two of your adventure, head back onto shore for one last opportunity to connect with nature on our special wildlife walk. Keep an eye out for rare birds and animals found on the island such as brown teal ducks, black petrel seabirds and kaka parrots. Back at the boat, you’ll be shown the art of spearfishing and will get the chance to try your luck at catching and cooking your own kaimoana for lunch. Alternatively, you can go snorkelling and explore the Great Barrier Island marine park with it’s abundant and unique sea-life. Then, finish your trip in style as the sun sets over the Hauraki Gulf, with your private helicopter transfer back to Auckland.
